The Sunseed Community

Everything you need to know before arriving

Accomodation

The 5-6 people dorms are mixed gender. We provide bed sheets and blankets but bring your sleeping bag if you have one because nights can be cold as not all the rooms are heated or isolated. The nature of the local habitat (semi-arid) means that there is a lot of dust around. We have urinals and shower block by the main house, and compost toilets in the gardens. We use fresh river water for showering and cleaning, which is solar heated, so you should be aware that in winter hot water is often limited and the water can be quite chilly!

Food

We offer a vegan diet, but the project is not strictly vegan.  The food is based on vegetables from our garden or purchased from another local organic gardener from a nearby village. The cereals are ordered from an organic provider. We bake our bread two times a week in our oven. We all take turns in the kitchen to cook and clean for breakfast, morning break, lunch and dinner from Monday to Friday.

Chemical Free

No toxic or chemical ingredients must enter Sunseed’s wastewater system, as this water is filtered through plants and returned to the river and it is imperative that we protect the local environment. Please make sure that any product you bring is listed as being organic, eco-friendly, as well as ethical and not tested on animals. This also applies to any toothpaste, body lotion, sun lotion, etc. as that will likely wash off when you’re taking a shower or swimming in the river. We can supply eco-friendly toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner. We sell moon cups and organic tampons and serviettes.

Travel

We aim to promote slow and conscious travel. If you consider taking a plane, ask yourself if you really have the time and space for Germinar-t. We encourage arranging your travel as sustainably as possible. Train or bus journeys are a great occasion to observe and understand the region, read, sleep or get excited about your arrival.

The next village from the community is Sorbas. From Sorbas you can enjoy a 7km hike or get a lift from us if you need. Reaching Sorbas is sometimes not that easy (you might need to take different buses).

Walk from Sorbas

Go down the hill from where the bus stops in the direction of Murcia, follow the main road for about 1km and then take the road on the right signposted to Las Cuevas, Carboneras and Rio de Aguas. After about 5km you pass a Mirador (viewpoint) with a small car park, then a short distance further you pass a turning (on your right) to the quarry (cantera). Keep following the main road, down the hill where you will see various houses. Follow the road until you pass the houses and approach a stone bridge. Then take the next path on the left (just before the bridge at the bottom of the hill). Follow the track past the parked cars and in a minute or so you will come to the main house on the left (a large white house with blue doors and windows). There are usually people about who will be expecting you.

Have a safe journey and see you soon!
